United Way & Volunteer Services (UWVS) of Greater Yankton focuses on address ing community needs through collaboration amongst volunteers and local organizations. Part of that fo cus is geared toward their an nual fundraising Campaign. UWVS takes pride in both their Campaign and their Allo cation process. The Allocation process is where numerous nonprofits in the Greater Yankton area annually submit financial requests to the UWVS Board of Directors. UWVS reviews the financial requests and then distributes the funds raised through their campaign to those organiza tions, to benefit thousands of people in our area. Partner Agencies, receiving UWVS support, include Big Friend Little Friend, Boy Scouts, Boys & Girls Club of Yankton, The Center, Connec tions, LSS; Consumer Credit Counseling, Contact Center, Family Education & Counsel ing Center, Family Visitation Center, Girl Scouts, Homeless Shelter, Literacy Council, Par ents As Teachers, Red Cross, Retired Senior Volunteer Pro gram, Sack Pack, Senior Com panions, Southeast CASA, Special Olympics, Yankton Women’s/Children’s Center, Yankton Transit, and Youth Scholarships to the Yankton Ice Association and Boys & Girls Club. Venture Grants are also available to nonprofits in need of additional funding. UWVS also facilitates nu merous community pro grams within their office, including the Big Red Book shelf, Community Volunteer Celebration, Dakota Dental Smile Mobile, the Holiday Bed Giveaway, Imagination Li brary, Make a Difference Day events, the Nonprofit Center, Yankton Homeless Preven tion Coalition, and Toys for Kids Adoption Program. In ad dition, the UWVS acts as a Volunteer Clearinghouse, helping individuals looking for volunteer opportunities, find an organization that can uti lize their talents. “We receive multiple calls and visits weekly from indi viduals seeking volunteer op portunities or that are in need of services,” says Executive Director, Lauren Hanson. “We enjoy being a resource 1870 Ag Equipment 1996 Case IH 2188, sep. hrs. 2618, 2003 2208 8-30 cornhead, 2003 1020 25’ grain platform.
