Yankton Children’s Choir Auditions Set
Two nights of auditions set for the 2015-16 Season of the
Yankton Children’s Choir, Ensemble-In-Residence at Mount Marty
College! Auditions will be held Tuesday, Aug. 25, from 6-7 p.m.
and Tuesday, Sept. 1, from 6-7 p.m., at Mount Marty College in
Bede Hall Room 127 (Bistro Second Stage). Auditions will be on a
first-come, first-served basis. Auditions take 15 minutes or less.
Auditions are open to all children in grades 3-8 during the
2015-2016 school year and may be attending any school in the
Yankton area. Singers must be accompanied by a parent or
guardian. Singers will be asked to sing “Happy Birthday” and
“Row, Row, Row Your Boat.”
Rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings, which begin on Sept.
8 and continue weekly through May. Tuition is charged for
participation in the choir. A limited number of scholarships are
available.

YCTC Holding Auditions Aug. 29-30
The Yankton Children’s Theater Company will hold auditions
for its upcoming production of “Porridgegate.” Auditions will be
Saturday, Aug. 29, and Sunday, Aug. 30, at 2 p.m. at Ability Building Services, 909 W. 23rd St., Yankton
Bring a joke or a funny story to tell as part of the tryout.

Vermillion Community Theatre
Presenting ‘Mary Poppins’
VERMILLION — Vermillion Community
Theatre presents Disney and Cameron
Mackintosh’s great Broadway hit, “Mary
Poppins” Aug. 21-24 at the Vermillion High
School Performing Arts Center.
The show has is all of the magic of
the books of P.L. Travers and the Walt
Disney film featuring such lively tunes as
“Jolly Holiday,” “Spoonful of Sugar” and
“Chim Chimney.” This production stars
Gretchen Burbach in the title role and
Matt Nesmith as Bert. Other leads are
played by Kenneth Tice of Yankton as Mr.
Banks and Mecia Graham as Mrs. Banks.
Ella Wittmuss plays Jane and Matthew
Giorgio of Elk Point plays Michael. They
are supported by a cast of nearly 70 actors of all ages.
The director for this production is
Callie Hisek who directed “Oliver!” last
summer, with music direction by Anthony
Burbach. Choreography is by Kathryn
Rose Reimler of Yankton. There is a huge
crew of builders, painters and costumers
that help bring this production to life.
Performances are Friday, Aug. 21, at
7:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 22, at 7:30 p.m.,
Sunday, Aug. 23, at 2:30 p.m. and Monday,
Aug. 24, at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are on sale at the Nook ‘n
Cranny, Davis Pharmacy and at the door.
“Will Call” tickets may be reserved at the
Nook ‘n Cranny at 605-624-4611 and paid
for at the door. All seats are general admission. The doors open an hour before

way for this year’s art in the Garden Celebration of Arts in Centerville which will be held

The Centerville Community Arts
Council, Inc., has announced that this year’s
featured guest artists at the sidewalk arts
festival will be Judy Thompson and Elise
Parsley.
Judy Thompson’s watercolor silver
Lake Reflections adorns the cover of
the book “Pioneer Girl: The annotated
Autobiography of Laura Ingalls Wilder.” The
book, which has been put out by the S.D.
Historical Society recently topped Amazons
bestseller list. Born and raised in Chicago,
Illinois, Judy now lives in Orange City, Iowa.
Selected twice as artist-in-residence with the
National Park System, Judy describes her
watercolors as contemporary Midwest landscapes and figures. Her watercolor batiks
of butterflies and birds which can be seen
on her website are breathtaking. Thompson
will be available at the Centerville Senior
Citizens Center and will offer a fun activity
for all ages using watercolor and ink. Be
sure to stop in, view her work and try your
hand at painting.
Elise Parsley just published her first
book in July through Little, Brown Books for
Young Readers. Originally from Flandreau,
Elise attended Bible College in the Twin Cities and studied drawing and creative writing
at Minnesota State University Moorhead.
The author-illustrator of “If You Ever Want
to Bring an Alligator to School, Don’t”
resides in Beresford, where her husband
is pastor of Skrefsrud Lutheran Church.
Elise will be available at the Centerville
Pharmacy Community Room. Books will be
available for sale or bring your own copy
to be autographed by the author-illustrator.
Demonstrations/Talks will be given at 4:30
p.m., 5:30 p.m, 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Take
advantage of this opportunity to meet an
area artist.
Several other artists/craftsmen will be
featured during the day. Eileen Halverson,
Sioux Falls, will display rosemaling and
offer an opportunity for people to try their
hand at this Norwegian folk art. Eileen will
be located in the Centerville Senior Citizens
Center. Quilts will be on display in the senior
center, too.
Other tables will be set up on the street
and in the garden including: Davis ironworks

Heartland Humane Society (HHS) is having a rummage sale
Friday, Sept. 11, from noon-6 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 12, from
8 a.m.-2 p.m. HHS is asking for your support by donating quality
items for the sale.
“What a great way to help animals.. Take a day to clean out
your storage space and donate unwanted items to a good cause.
Your contribution is also tax deductible. One hundred percent of
the proceeds will go towards the care of our fostered and sheltered pets,” says Christa Kranig, shelter coordinator at Heartland
Humane Society.
