Elderly And Disabled Tax Credit Applications Accepted Through July 1 Read AARP South Dakota is encouraging eligible senior citizens and disabled individuals to make time before July 1 to apply for an annual refund of their sales or property tax. “As property values appreciate over time, property tax also increases. Since many of South Dakota’s seniors live on fixed incomes, this tax quickly becomes one of the most burdensome,” explained Erik Gaikowski, AARP South Dakota State Director. “This appropriation provides tax relief to some of South Dakota’s most vulnerable citizens, making it easier for them to afford basic needs such as food, medicine and utilities.” To be eligible, individuals must be at least 66 years old on or before January 1, 2017 or be disabled during any part of the year, be a South Dakota resident for the entire previous year, and meet annual income requirements. Refunds are calculated based on income. The income limit for a single-member household is $11,800; the limit for a multiple-member household is $16,020. Applications are currently being accepted and will be available through July 1, 2017. Applications can be obtained online or by calling 1-800-829-9188 ext. 2 and should be submitted to the South Dakota Department of Revenue, Special Tax Division. AARP South Dakota is proud to support this program and the annual appropriation from the SD Legislature that makes it possible. “We applaud the Governor and Legislature for continuing to support this program over the years,” said Erik Nelson, advocacy director for AARP South Dakota. “We strongly encourage any eligible South “Full Service Farm Equipment” Dakotans to apply for a refund.” East Hwy. 50, Yankton, SD 1-800-827-9700 • 605-665-3872 sales@koletzkyimplement.com • www.koletzkyimplement.com and Recycle!
