Cramer and his lovely wife, Alice Bullfinch Cramer, have invited friends and neighbors to their newly redecorated home at 509 Pine Street. Ten guests arrive at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, for hors d’oeuvres and dinner. But then a body is discovered … Thus starts “A Murder in the Mansion,” where members of the community get to dress in period clothing, eat scrumptious food and solve a mystery in just a few hours. Reservations are being taken now on a first-come, first-served basis by calling the Cramer-Kenyon Heritage Home at 605-665-7470 or caretaker Veronica Trezona at 605-660-5612. There is a waiting list for the drama. People who wanted to attend previous dinners have been notified about the date. The show’s creator, Ted Powell, is writing a new plot for this event. Participants will each have an identity in keeping with the late 1800s and will receive, via email, the background on their characters. Based loosely on the life of attorney Harold Krents, this 1969 play’s plot revolves around Don, an aspiring singersongwriter living on his own for the first time, whose controlling mother disapproves of his relationship with hippie and free-spirited hippie and next-door neighbor, Jill (played by Goldie Hawn in the film version). Together, Don and Jill set out to prove they can be successful and free from what is holding them back. The production carries a PG-13 rating. Playing the character of Don is Mat Jensen, Yankton, with Megan Patterson, Madison, Mississippi, in the role of Jill. Completing the cast is Alanna Binder and Andrew Peitz, both of Yankton, in the roles of Mrs. Baker and Ralph, respectively. The production is under the direction and design of James Hovland Jr., with costumes by Dawn Ferris, and Miranda Henglefelt, Alexandria, serving as the stage manager.
