Consider joining the Vermillion Public Library’s most popular book club — Cook the Book. Once a month, the library’s tastiest adult program will introduce fellow foodies to new tastes, cooking techniques, and great books about cooking. This unique book group brings together patrons who love to cook for a shared meal and conversation about food and cooking. To participate, choose a recipe to prepare and share for the first meeting. Each month there is a different theme, so check with library staff to see what the group will be discussing, and what kind of recipe to bring! It will only be necessary to make one regularsized recipe — no need to double. Subsequent meetings will be themed according to the group’s choices. Meetings will take place at noon on the first Tuesday of the month from January-May. The Edith B. Siegrist Vermillion Public Library is located at 18 Church Street, Vermillion. For more information, call 605-677-7060 or email vplstaff@vermillionpubliclibrary.org. Free Exercise Class At Vermillion Library 33rd Annual VERMILLION — The public is invited to a free exercise class at the Vermillion Public Library. Every week, University of South Dakota Health Care Students and volunteers are in the Kozak Room leading healthy movement classes that emphasize reducing fall risk. While these exercises are especially helpful for senior citizens, participants of all ages are welcome. The classes are set for Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9-9:30 a.m. The Edith B. Siegrist Vermillion Public Library is located at 18 Church Street, Vermillion. For more information, email Robert at robertceckman@gmail.com. Preschool/Under Programs At Library Storytime begins again at the Yankton Community Library on Jan. 6. Story times are designed for preschool age and under and are offered on Mondays at 6 p.m. and Tuesdays/Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. Story time is followed by an art activity geared toward preschoolaged children. The Winter/Spring Story time session runs from Jan. 6 through April 23. Stay and Play for Preschoolers and Toddlers will be held on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. The library will provide materials for exploration and learning through play for adults and children to enjoy together. This is a great opportunity for children and parents alike to meet and visit with other families here at the Yankton Community Library. Come in out of the cold and enjoy playing and learning at the library. For questions, call the library at 605-668-5275 or email library@cityofyankton.org. LINCOLN, Neb — Youngsters ages 6-17, now is the time to get out your favorite artist supplies and give free rein to your imagination to create a poster for the Nebraska Aviation Art Contest 2020. Combine the flights of the past with the dreams of the future in this year’s theme “Flying Yesterday and Tomorrow.” The dream to fly is thousands of years old. The ancient stories from around the world of those who wanted to take flight started to become reality in the late 1800s. Each generation has learned what is possible while holding true to the love of flight that is in the heart of all aviators. The first airplanes were made of cloth and wood, and those early crafts were powered by engines that produced around 12 horsepower. While the physics of flight remains the same, the technology is always advancing. Aviators have shown what is possible today. What does the future hold? Where will the young aviation dreamers of today lead us?
