His office is located at the SDSU Extension Regional Center in Rapid City. "Patrick has strong knowledge and experience in the field of crop entomology to serve agriculture producers in western South Dakota as well as agribusinesses," said Alvaro Garcia, SDSU Extension Agriculture and Natural Resources Program Director & Professor. As an SDSU Extension Entomology Field Specialist, Wagner will work to develop and disseminate research-based educational programing and provide applicable resources and information about insects in crops and rangelands throughout western South Dakota. More about Patrick Wagner Growing up on a small farm near Le Mars, Iowa, Wagner spent much of his spare time as a kid outdoors hunting for insects. "I loved catching bugs which freaked my parents out." "That is, until they figured out that I wasn't going to outgrow the fascination and they began supporting me in my pursuit of a career in entomology," explains Wagner, who received a Bachelor of Science degree in Insect Science from Iowa State University and went on to receive a Master's in Entomology from the University of NebraskaLincoln. As a graduate student, Wagner's research focused on rangeland ecology and the promotion of dung beetle activity in cattlegrazed ecosystems. "I enjoy the opportunity SDSU Extension gives me to combine my farm background with entomology to help landowners, ranchers and farmers," Wagner said.
