Memorial Day
Programs
Yankton
A Memorial Day program has been planned for
Yankton on Monday, May 29. It will be carried
out by Ernest Bowyer Post 791.
The schedule includes:
Avenue of Flags, Memorial Park, 8am5pm. Cemetery flags erected at boundaries
of cemetery at 1pm Saturday, down at 5pm
Monday.
Color Guard Ceremony: 9am-VFW plot Yankton
Cemetery; 9:15am- GAR plot; 9:30am- Sacred
Heart Cemetery; 9:45am- Human Services
Center Cemetery; 10am- Garden of Memories
Cemetery; 11am- Fantle Memorial Park.
The 11am program will feature guest speaker
Captain Michael Nei. Post Commander Bill
Rueppel will be Master of Ceremonies. This is
sponsored by the VFW Post and its Auxiliary, Roy
Anderson Post American Legion and its Auxiliary.
In case of inclement weather, the Memorial
Day program will be held at the Post Home, 209
Cedar St., Yankton. There will be a potluck at the
Post Home following the program.
Gayville
The Gayville American Legion and Auxiliary
Units will assemble at the Community Center in
Gayville at 8:15am on Monday, May 29 for its
Memorial Day recognitions.
The Group will proceed to
the following cemeteries:

Faith United- 9:10 am
Mission Hill- 9:30 am
Vangen- 9:40 am
Gayville- 10:00 am
Danish- 10:20 am
Bergen- 10:40 am
Meckling- 10:50 am
Gayville Memorial- 11:30 am
Menno
Rames Bender Post 152 of Menno, SD
will meet at the Legion in Menno then march
to the Menno Cemetery for a Memorial Day

service. The service will start at 10:30am at
the Menno cemetery on Monday May 29th and
will honor all fallen veterans of the Menno area.
Guest speaker will be Senator Bill Van Gerpen.
Following the service all veterans and public are
invited to the Menno School gym for a BBQ. The
BBQ is put on by the Menno High School Band
and will be serving brats, hamburgers, hot dogs
and salads. A mini-concert by the High School
Band will be performed at approximately 11:45
am. A free-will donation will be taken with all
proceeds going towards future band trips.
Mission Hill
Vangen Lutheran Church in Mission Hill will be
holding its 71st annual Memorial Day Service at
the (historic) “Old Vangen Church and Cemetery,
one mile east of town on 308th St. The public
is invited to attend the Memorial Day Service
which will begin at 10:00am, Monday, May
29, preceded by a cemetery commemorative
presented by the Gayville American Legion at
9:40am. Officiating will be Vicar Mary Hendricks
Wilkens. Speaker will be Jim Reinhart. There
will be a luncheon following the service at the
new Vangen in Mission Hill.
Tabor
The Veterans we have lost no longer wake up
to the taps or the sound of the family laughter.
They will forever miss the loving embrace of
family and friends. Help us to remember them at
the Tabor American Legion Post 183 Memorial
Day Service on Monday, May 29.
Services begin at St. Wenceslaus, in Tabor at
9:00am followed by a program in Sokal Park at
10:30am, with a guest speaker.

The Hall-Thompson American Legion Post # 193
of Irene, SD will be doing the following events in
honor of the Memorial Day weekend May 26 - 29.
The American Legion, Auxiliary and Sons will be
putting flags on graves of veterans in the local
cementeries before the weekend.
On Monday. May 29th the Post, Auxiliary and
Sons will host a Memorial Day program at 10:00am
in the Meeting Room of the Irene Community
Center. Commander Chris Olson will be in charge.
Music and poems will be by the Auxiliary. The roll
of veterans buried in local cemeteries will be read.
The Post will do Military Honors with a tribute
to the “Fallen Soldier” at Irene Veteran’s Memorial
following the program.
Rolls and refreshments will follow as a social in
the Community Center.
