 United Way
United Way & Volunteer Services of Greater
 Yankton focuses on addressing community
 needs through collaboration amongst human
service programs, volunteers and local organizations.
Part of that focus is geared toward their annual Community Campaign fundraising drive.
Numerous nonprofits in the Greater Yankton
area annually submit financial requests to
the United Way Board of Directors. United
Way reviews the requests and then distributes the funds raised through their Community Campaign to those organizations, to benefit thousands of people in our area.
Partner Agencies receiving United Way support include: Big Friend Little Friend, Boys &
Girls Club, The Center, Senior Nutrition, Connections, LSS, Center for Financial Counseling, The Contact Center, Family Education
& Counseling Center, Habitat for Humanity,
Yankton Area Literacy Council, Parents As
 Teachers, Retired Senior Volunteer Program,
 Sack Pack, Senior Companions, Southeast
CASA, Special Olympics, River City Family
 Connections, River City Domestic Violence
 Center, Yankton Homeless Shelter, Yankton
Transit, and Connecting Kids Youth Scholarships awarded to the Yankton Ice Association, Boys Scouts, Girl Scouts, EmBe’s Girls
on the Run and the Boys & Girls Club. Venture Grants are also available to nonprofits in
 need of additional funding.
United Way also facilitates numerous community programs within their office, including
the Big Red Bookshelf, Dakota Dental Smile
Mobile, Feel it in your Soles, Shoes for Kids
program, the Holiday Bed Giveaway, Imagination Library, Make a Difference Day events,
a Community Resource Fair, the Nonprofit
Center, and Toys for Kids Adoption Program.
In addition, United Way acts as a Volunteer
 Clearinghouse, helping individuals looking for
 volunteer opportunities, find an organization
that can utilize their talents. “We receive
multiple calls and visits weekly from individuals seeking volunteer opportunities or

that are in need of services,” says Executive
Director Lauren Hanson. “We enjoy being a
resource for the community, whether it is collaborating to address needs, sharing information, or funding essential programs.”
In an effort to raise the final $5,000 needed to reach the 2016 Community Campaign
Goal of $525,000, supporting over 45 local
programs, United Way is conducting a LAST
BLAST Final Campaign Push on Thursday,
March 31st thanks to KYNT1450 Radio and
 Riverfront Broadcasting.
United Way Staff, Board Members, and
Heart Club Committee will be stationed at
Yankton Hy-Vee throughout the day, collecting
funds and promoting United Way and Partner
Agencies. A drawing for an Asus mini tablet,
donated by WalMart, will also be conducted.
If you donate, $5.00 or more, you will be entered into the drawing!
Any gift, no matter the size, will help better
 the community.
If your organization would like to participate and donate on air, please contact United
Way at 605.665.6766, so they may coordinate your broadcast time. Or just swing by
 Yankton Hy-Vee anytime between 7:00am
 - 7:00pm on Thursday, March 31st to show
 your support.
United Way is also providing their TEXT TO
GIVE donation option, making giving even
easier! All you need to do is text the word
YANKTON to the short code 41444, to be
lead to their giving site. You can easily enter
in your donation amount and payment information.
According to Hanson “the entire United
Way team, along with our partner agencies, is
extremely grateful for the continued support
of loyal contributors and community volunteers who are passionate about our mission
and goals to support human needs.”
